My ducklings have grown into beautiful adult ducks. The Pekins are gorgeous, big and perfectly white. They love to bathe in their own individual spas. The Blue Swedes are pretty, too. The black one shines turquoise in the sun. Some Rhode Island Reds like to hang out in the pen outside with the ducks. They climb the chicken ladder to get into the room and roost at night. The ducks like to huddle together outside. So far, no intruders that I know of have gotten into the pen.

Which type chicken lays the largest eggs of these 4?

I have 4 that just began laying last month and want to know who is laying the bigger eggs vs the smaller ones. Red-laced Wyandotte, black sex-link, Rhode Island Red, and possibly a golden sex-link; I'm not sure about the last one. I can't catch them in the act, so I can't tell who is laying which size egg. Also, some eggs are shiny and some more chalky-shelled. Is that due to the type of chicken? They eat the same food and are all in the same pen. Thanks for your help!

Can ducks and chickens live in the same pen?

While out today, I got 3 Rhode Island reds and 4 muskovy ducks. Can they live in the same pen and keep peace? Also, one duck is a drake and one chicken is a rooster. Will the males fight each other, despite being two seperate species?

Yes , if they have plenty of room they should get along fine. The rooster and the drake should be fine to.Just be sure to change the water every day because the ducks like to sift their feed and tend to muddy the drinking water .

ok so i have 5 New Hampshire hen and 1 Rhode Island Red hen and one rhode island red rooster. They are all in the same pen. how many eggs should i be getting each day from them.i am now only picking up about 0-2 eggs each day. is that normal or should they be laying more eggs. there is always food for them and also water we go and check on them every day. they are like 10 or 11 months old

Hi,

At only 11 months old, you should be getting more eggs.

If your birds are free range, then I suggest you watch your birds carefully one day as I expect they are laying away from the poultry house in some undergrowth or something. This is very common at this time of year as they want to lay a number of eggs before sitting on them.

I've found out door nest contain 30+ eggs, lol some don't know when to stop.
